Grant Vogeli, QC

Lawson Lundell LLP, Calgary

Call: 1983

Statement

Grant was born and raised in Saskatchewan. He obtained his law degree at the University of Saskatchewan in 1982 and practised in Regina until 1988. Since moving to Calgary in 1988, Grant has practised exclusively as a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer.

He is recognized as an accomplished practitioner by Benchmark Canada, Chambers Canada, Best Lawyers in Canada and Martindale-Hubbell and received his Q.C. designation in 2013. Grant has a strong commitment to serving the legal profession. He has taught the bar course and presented at several LESA seminars. He also does an extensive amount of pro bono work every year.

Grant is also passionate about mentoring young lawyers. He believes that we all have an obligation to pass on to the next generation what we have learned from other lawyers and our unique experiences. Grant accordingly spends many hours each year working alongside and teaching young lawyers—often by helping them prepare, watching them perform, and debriefing afterwards about what went well and what could go better next time. This investment of time in others has paid off—many of Grant’s former articling students and junior lawyers have gone on to distinguished legal careers and are themselves respected members of the profession.

Grant also has a strong commitment to the community. He has served on and chaired many charitable and non-profit boards including the Multiple Sclerosis Society in both Saskatchewan and Alberta, the Calgary Telus Convention Centre, the Celtic Soccer Club and Glenmore Christian Academy. He has also been extensively involved in law firm management. Grant has been married to Rita for 32 years and they have three adult daughters, who have taught Grant much about what it takes to succeed as a professional woman in a high-pressure, demanding environment.
