Statement

It has been a pleasure and huge privilege to have served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta for the past three years, during which time I served on the Lawyer Competence Committee, the Professional Development Profile Task Force, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and the Audit and Finance Committee. I previously served as a member of the Law Society of Alberta’s Bencher Election Task Force, and currently volunteer on the Board of Pro Bono Law Alberta and the Airdrie Subdivision Development and Appeal Board.

I am a Senior Legal Counsel with Woodfibre LNG with focus on strategic business initiatives and commercial agreements relating to project management and construction.

Born and raised in Nigeria, I obtained my Bachelor of Laws degree from Abia State University and licensure from the Nigerian Law School. I also hold a Master of Laws degree from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.

I serve in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves as an armoured soldier with the King’s Own Calgary Regiment (Royal Canadian Armoured Corps), and sit on the Boards of Global Lawyers of Canada, Calgary Black Chambers, Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council, and the Anglican Diocese of All Nations.

Outside of the legal profession, I am an avid soccer fan, and enjoy bike riding, exploring new places, daddy duties and connecting with people.

My background and experiences provide me with a personal appreciation of the challenges facing in-house counsel, early-career lawyers, internationally trained lawyers, and racialized lawyers in Alberta. Given my professional and personal experiences, I can continue to make meaningful contributions to the work of the Bencher table.

It would be an honour to continue to service as a Bencher and work on behalf of the profession and the public to provide effective and efficient regulation.
