Walsh LLP, Calgary
I was born in the Czech Republic but moved to Calgary at the age of 11 when my family immigrated to Canada after the Russian invasion of the former Czechoslovakia in 1968. I completed both a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science as well as a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Calgary while working the night shift sorting mail at the Calgary Mail Processing Plant to finance my education.
In the nearly four decades since being called to the Alberta Bar in 1983 at the age of 24, I have primarily handled residential real estate conveyancing helping tens of thousands of home buyers and sellers complete their house and condominium transactions. In addition to practising law I have instructed numerous real estate law courses across the province to both Realtors and lawyers and, as well, continue to actively moderate a popular “Legal Lou” Blog on LinkedIn.
Some of the additional numerous professional and volunteer activities that I have engaged in from time to time include:
I was fortunate to become a Bencher of the Law Society in February 2020 as the “next in line” candidate when a vacancy occurred. Since then I have participated on all the standard committees such as Trust Safety, Assurance Fund Adjudications, Complaint Dismissal Appeals, Conduct, Credentials and Education and some additional committees such as Policy and Regulatory Reform and Practice Review and, as well, am the current Real Estate Practice Advisory Liaison. I have found my short involvement on the Law Society Board to be extremely interesting and rewarding. I would very much look forward to serving for an additional full term should I be re-elected.
