Statement

Dear Fellow Members of the Bar:

It has been a great privilege to serve as a Bencher for the past six years. During my time as a Bencher, I have served on several Hearing Committees, Complaint Appeal Panels, Appeal Panels and Resignation Committees. In addition to my adjudicative role, I am currently the Vice-Chair of the Lawyer Competence Committee, Chair of the Professional Responsibility Committee and Chair of the consolidated regulatory committees, which includes Assurance Fund Adjudications, Complaint Dismissal Appeals, Credentials and Education and Trust Safety. I am also the Law Society board member for the Canadian Centre for Legal Education (CPLED), Alberta Lawyer’s Assistance Society (ASSIST) and the Family Law Rules Advisory Sub-Committee.

I have been in private practice in Red Deer for over 32 years with a focus on family and civil litigation. During my time I have appeared before the Courts in matters dealing with family disputes and civil matters. The highlights of my career include the following:

• King’s Counsel appointment in 2020
• Distinguished Service Award from Law Society of Alberta and Canadian Bar Association in 2016
• Chair and presenter at the Legal Education Society of Alberta Family Law: Chambers Advocacy and Practice Pointers program, presenter at the Legal Education Society of Alberta Family Farm Issues program and the Legal Education Society of Alberta Family Law Contracts
• Law Society of Alberta Volunteer Recognition Recipient in 2016
• 2010 Prism Award for outstanding commitment to pro bono legal services in central Alberta
• Instructor (part time) at Red Deer College, Legal Assistant Program, from 2012 to 2017

As an active member of the community, I served from 2016 to 2018 as the Run Director for the CIBC Run for the Cure, Canadian Cancer Society, in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. I am also a past Board member with the fundraising committee for the Heart and Stroke Foundation (Charity Golf Classic) and an annual volunteer with the Festival of Trees (fundraiser for Red Deer Regional Health Foundation). From 1994 to 2000 I was on the Board of Directors for Central Alberta Theatre Society.
