Call: 2006
Over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of serving Albertans in a variety of roles dedicated to the administration of justice and the rule of law. I was called to the Alberta Bar in 2006 and have spent the majority of my legal career in public service.
From 2008 to 2021, I served as a Crown Prosecutor with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, conducting prosecutions and working closely with victims, witnesses, law enforcement and the judiciary. In the latter part of my career, I completed a secondment to the Policy Unit, where I advised on the implementation of significant reforms to Canada’s impaired driving regime. These experiences reinforced the profound responsibility lawyers bear, not only to their clients and stakeholders, but also to the integrity of the justice system itself. It instilled in me a deep respect for professionalism, ethical decision-making, and the importance of maintaining public confidence in our legal institutions.
Since joining the Calgary Police Service as Senior Legal Counsel in 2021 and subsequently being appointed Director of Legal Services in 2026, I have advised on a broad range of complex legal, governance, and public policy matters. In my current leadership role, I provide strategic advice on issues involving governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, professional responsibility, and public accountability. Leading a team of legal professionals in a large public institution has reinforced my commitment to effective governance, thoughtful decision-making, and balancing diverse perspectives in service of the public interest.
Throughout my career, I have sought opportunities to contribute beyond my day-to-day practice. I am a Sessional Instructor at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, teaching Evidence. I am also an Assessor, Facilitator and Practice Manager with the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education. Working with aspiring future lawyers has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my professional life. It allows me to share practical experience with the next generation of legal professionals while remaining engaged with the evolving challenges facing our profession.
I am a mentor through the Law Society of Alberta’s Mentor Express program and a founding member of the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association’s Mentorship Committee. I believe mentorship is one of the most meaningful ways lawyers can support one another. The guidance, encouragement, and practical insight we provide to newer members of the profession strengthen not only individual careers but also the profession as a whole.
My decision to seek election as a Bencher is rooted in a desire to uphold and protect the public interest. If elected, I would bring the perspective of a lawyer whose career has been dedicated to public service, legal education and professional mentorship. I would approach the role with humility, collegiality and a commitment to thoughtful governance.
