Call: 2009
I am from the Samson Cree Nation, one of the four Nations of Maskwacîs, and a member of Treaty 6, with deep roots in Maskwacîs and rural Alberta where I grew up. My education and experience has been the driving force that shaped my lifelong commitment to equity, sound governance, and public service. I was called to the Alberta Bar in 2009 and appointed King’s Counsel in 2024. Throughout my legal career, I have dedicated myself to advancing justice, governance, and legal education across Canada.
As a practicing lawyer and Indigenous Legal Advisor with the City of Edmonton, my current practice centers on municipal law and intergovernmental relations. My perspective is informed by a diverse career spanning private practice as a sole practitioner in Maskwacîs, administrative leadership as former Legal Director of the Wahkohtowin Law and Governance Lodge at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, and legal education as a Sessional Instructor at the U of A, where I hold an LL.B. I also hold an LL.M. in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Osgoode Hall Law School.
My background aligns directly with the core governance, regulatory, and technical competencies required at the Bencher table. I hold the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Certified In-House Counsel (CIC.C) designation from the Rotman School of Management. In a quasi-judicial capacity, I served five years as an Acting Commission Member with the Alberta Utilities Commission. My board governance experience includes serving as Co-Chair of the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), Board Member of Peace Hills General Insurance, Board Member of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, former President of the Indigenous Bar Association, and former Councillor for Samson Cree Nation.
I bring a deep commitment to professional regulation, ethics, and access to justice. I previously served as Indigenous Initiatives Liaison for the Law Society of Alberta and on the Law Society’s Access to Justice Committee. Currently, I serve on the Alberta Court of Justice Indigenous Justice Strategy Access to Justice Committee.
Outside of the law, I was a volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada for ten years. In my free time, I enjoy beading, crafting or buying supplies to craft when I have time, and playing in a local volleyball league. I am the proud mother of two university students, two cats, and an Australian Shepherd/Collie mix named Maple.
I am committed to placing my time, governance experience, and legal expertise at the service of the Law Society of Alberta to uphold the public interest.
