Call: 1992
Thank you for the time you are giving to me to review my personal statement. I come to this Bencher election with broad experience in the practice of public law. Though I worked briefly in private practice, I have been with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service in various capacities since January, 1998. During that time, I have had the honour of leading both the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service Specialized Prosecutions Office as Executive Director and the Calgary Prosecutions Office as Chief Prosecutor. I have a long-standing experience with the Courts, with the Government of Alberta and with key stakeholders in the Justice system. This is all experience that I bring to the table as a Bencher candidate with the Law Society of Alberta.
My personal legal practice includes traditional prosecutions but my areas of expertise over time also include money laundering, breach of trust in public office, and law office searches. My practice has also included work as a Level II Designated Officer hearing grievances under the collective agreement between the Government of Alberta and members of the Alberta Union of Public Employees (AUPE). I have experience in non-traditional areas of criminal law, money laundering for example, and I have experience in hearing complaints in a regulatory setting as a Designated Officer under the collective agreement between the Government of Alberta and AUPE. These experiences put me in a good place to carry out the responsibilities of a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta.
Why a Bencher with the Law Society of Alberta? It is an opportunity to use and grow the leadership skills acquired from my time with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service. I have experience in mentoring and supporting diversity in the practice of law. These topics dovetail with maintaining independence for the legal profession in Alberta. All of this supports what I believe is the ultimate goal for the Law Society of Alberta which is to ensure excellence in the provision of legal services to the people of Alberta. All of this supports what I believe is the ultimate goal for the Law Society of Alberta which is to ensure excellence in the provision of legal services to the people of Alberta.
The potential to be a Law Society of Alberta Bencher is a great opportunity for me and I am very hopeful that I will be able to serve as a Bencher. I am confident that I can contribute to the public interest in Alberta as a Bencher and I look forward to the elections November 10-17, 2026.
